Find out what your adolescent child is doing in your absence.

By Anie Cosmas

HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW YOUR TEENAGE CHILD?
It could be very easy to speak about or defend a child of 8 or 9 years of age because you can possiblily say 'yes' I know what my child can do.
You discover that as soon as adolescence sets in you seem to lose trust on that child. How well do you know your child?
When children receive the natural call of adolescence, life becomes very challenging to them. They feel like exploring their environment and learn things inside and outside their homes. During this trying period they make several mistakes in life.
They get involved in taking hard drugs or exposed to early sex. At the end of it all they become nuisant and wayward to themselves, their parents and the society at large.
During this time they try to locate their stable identity, parents need to get very closer to them. Unfortunately, most parents don't have time for their children. They leave homes early in the morning and come back late in the evening all in the name of work, hence they fail to know what their teenage son or daughter did when they were away.
These adolescent children need their parents more than they need friends or peer group that may lure them into committing evil.
Don't forget, if you fail to tell your children you love them someone else out there will. Whenever they start receiving instructions from outside their homes whatever you tell them at home may not make meanings to them.
That is why you see that your teenager becomes aggressive, dishonest and starts bulling his younger ones at home. At the same time seem to become independent.
As a parent, ones you find it difficult to control your adolescence child it means that you have lost a sense of responsiblity. So, try to retrace your steps. Find out who his or friends are and advice them on the good path of life.
You have a vital role to play in their lives as they approach aduldhood.
Let your children be a blessing to you and the society.
